⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Pascal
Age: 22
Canon: Tales of Graces
Canon Point: Post Lineage and Legacies

Background: HERE

Personality:

Pascal: "Sometimes I get so lost in serious thought."
Cheria: "Huh? About what?"
Pascal: "About how I can think more seriously about things!"
Cheria: "Oh brother..."

Pascal is quite the oddball. She's first introduced to the party when they stumble upon her sleeping against a tree. She becomes overly excited to see Sophie, recognizing her from an image in some ruins, and agrees to show them at Asbel's insistence. She's eccentric to a fault but also quite peppy and friendly. She doesn't hesitate at all to help Asbel, Richard and Sophie on their journey and she continues to stick with them throughout the rest of the game for no other reason than the simple desire to help. Her happy-go-lucky spirit often helps keep the mood positive and hopeful. She remains consistently cheerful in the face of any situation and is a firm believe in "if there is a will there is a way". She is often the driving force behind the party's next course of action, always suggesting what they should do next. She never once utters the phrase "What now?". Pascal often consciously attempts to raise the spirits of others around her too. She doesn't like gloomy attitudes.

Her eccentric nature is obvious in her behavior and the way she speaks. She often uses childish words to describe complicated processes (such as calling certain machine parts "thingies" and what not) and isn't always clear in what she's trying to get across as a result. She is a bit too blunt and speaks her mind more often than not. As a result she isn't very good at "reading the atmosphere" of a situation which can cause her actions to seem even odder to outsiders. She remains clear-headed and insightful though especially when it comes to her work. Her curious nature sometimes leads her by the nose into trouble but she isn't one to worry. In fact she's so worry free it's almost... well... worrisome. Things don't get her down and even when they do she is very quick to pick herself back up and keep trying. In general she just doesn't seem to take anything all that seriously which might be why she can bounce back so fast.

Pascal is an utter genius when it comes to technology and researching. She is able to figure out how to work complicated machines and control panels that she has never even seen before. This includes being able to fly a shuttle from another time and then later create a part for it out of material she never knew existed before until only moments beforehand. Her research is viewed with high regard by those of her fellow Amarcian (pronounced AH-MARSH-E-INN) brethren. She has created several inventions of her own (not many of them successful) and created even more theories and speculations about the world around her that might better help the people who inhabit it. She's always researching and studying, learning all she can and absorbing her new findings and experiences like a sponge.

She is often childish and seemingly naive though sometimes it seems like she plays dumb on purpose just to ruffle feathers of certain individuals. She can be a bit petty as well, sulking or pouting when she is offended or didn't get her way in a discussion. But she bounces back without much lingering resentment and always fairly quickly. Her only known family member, her sister Fourier, is very important to her and she admires her very much. She talks highly of her and looks up to her own work in the field of research and tech. When Fourier angrily admits that she's resentful that Pascal is smarter than her and that is makes her feel terrible Pascal becomes very distraught. Pascal holds family relationships to be some of the most important bonds that exist. For example she was pleased that Asbel and Hubert were brothers and even took to calling Hubert "Little Bro" though this might have partially been to annoy him a little.

She shares a positive relationship with all of the other main characters. She's very enamored with Sophie especially and seems to enjoy ruffling Hubert's feathers most of all. She's unaware of his crush on her but gives him special attention all the same. She often drags him around with her to examine new findings or to help her dig through scrapes for parts. He grumps but always obliges.

Although more than a little strange Pascal is very friendly. You'll also never find a more cheerful person than her either. She can fill a room with that sunshine, really.

Abilities: Pascal specializes in using offensive magic (known as artes in the Tales Of world) and fighting long ranged with her Shotstaff, a modified magic staff that doubles as a rifle of sorts. This allows her to keep her distance so that she has time (and space) to pause and cast her spells. However she has a special skill called Iron Guard that can activate and protect her from interruption for a short time. Her spells require her to be somewhat close to an enemy and within a circular range adjacent from where she's standing.

She also has the ability to summon three spirits of the three major elements of her world: Water, Fire and Air. Thus by summoning them she can wield these elements as well via their help.

Pascal is also a technical genius. She excels at working with machinery and computers, often able to figure out completely alien technology within a few minutes. Her intelligence with these types of things is incredible. She was even able to research and development new pieces of technology the world had never seen before to boot.

Alignment: Daimonia [grief and joy] fits Pascal best. Pascal pretty much embodies the joy portion of this alignment. She's a constant morale boost for her friends and a source of positivity that has helped improve the mood on numerous occasions. She always sets a cheerful atmosphere and brings smiles where ever she goes. Of course she's had her share of grief as well with her sister Fourier and, like the rest of the Graces cast, being faced with Sophie's immortality. But Pascal deals handles her grief with a smile and tries to always make the best of the moment.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample:

The streets of the city are filled with the usual crowds of people but today heads are turning as they pass by a peculiar woman planted in front of a store window. At this point the natives are more than likely use to such displays but it's no less distracting when trying to go about your day. Pascal in particular is hard to ignore in general and even more so when she's quite literally glowing. Occasionally little sparkles of color pop to life around her too, flashing brightly and catching anyone's eye who might be passing by.

But most people are staring at the swarm of bats she's attracted.

Pascal is either ignoring all of this or she's oblivious (it's possibly both) as she presses her face close to the glass. Inside are many trinkets not unusual to the city--pocket watches, steam powered mechanical toys, antique tools and items, etc. Theses are, of course, what has Pascal so excited and is also what these bats are reacting too. Although they aren't bothering Pascal they are beginning to annoy others passing near her.

"Oh my gosh, look at these things! I've never seen anything like 'em before!" She isn't talking to anyone in particular which doesn't help the stares she's receiving. She beams, causing sparkles to pop to life near the corner of her eyes.

"What do you suppose that thing is?" She cants her head toward an old umbrella on display and hums thoughtfully. "It looks like something totally familiar but also way different so I can't quite put my finder on it...."

"Hey..."

Pascal perks up at the voice, glancing to the right. The door to the shop she's been standing outside of is open and the shop owner is now standing in the doorway.

He looks a little annoyed. "You're keepin' customers away. Get lost already."

"Eh?"

She pauses and then seems to finally notice (or finally acknowledges) the bats. She scratches the back of her neck with a sheepish grin. "Aw... these fellas? They aren't hurting anybody. They just appreciate your work too. Besides, I can't exactly make them leave..."

The shopkeeper looks even more unimpressed and Pascal holds up her hands, palms out. "Okay, okay... sheesh."

She can take a hint and off she goes, sulking a little. The shimmer finally fades as a result and things seem to return to normal as she heads off down the street. Ah well. She'll go back later. Hopefully this time without a hoard of bats following her.

Questions: Pascal was here before so I wanted her to return with her memories/experiences in tact! I wrote a brief summery of her time here and what changed for her.

Pascal wasn't around for long but Empatheias still made an impact on her. She arrived in Empatheias for the first time shortly before the earthquake that shook the city. When it occurred she was still disoriented and trying to understand where she was. Yet with people in need and things needing to be fixed Pascal sprung into action to help. Her fateful encounter with Zero caused her to become extremely interested in the technology of other worlds and of the new one she found herself in. Much to Zero's displeasure Pascal stuck to him like glue, overly fascinated by this totally awesome robot she wanted to study. To make it worse for him she became the only person around to help him build his teleportation devices. Reluctantly he allowed her to live in the basement of his home which she turned into a lab so she could work on this project. She finished the project for him shortly before leaving Empatheias. She also worked periodically at the airship docks studying as well, trying to absorb whatever she could about the world's tech.

Personality wise Pascal did not change much. Inherently curious and a scientist at heart it was only natural for her to take interest in the world and its machines. Upon doing her research she also became sympathetic to the world's plight and decided to dedicate most of her study to finding solutions for the people of the city. After finishing Zero's project she had plans to start working on this but left before she could do so.
